Spring is here — and with it, one of the most anticipated weekends on the Minnesota youth soccer calendar. April 17–19 brings together select NPL teams and all ECNL Regional League clubs at the National Sports Center in Blaine for League Weekend: three days of high-stakes, high-quality competition that marks the official launch of the spring portion of both league schedules.

With a full slate of matches spanning U13 through U19, across both the NPL and ECNL RL, League Weekend offers players, families, coaches, and clubs the chance to experience top-flight youth soccer in a concentrated, electric atmosphere unlike any other weekend of the season.

Standings across multiple divisions hang in the balance. Below, we’ve identified 10 matches — five boys, five girls — that stand out as the most compelling contests of the weekend, based on current league standings, divisional stakes, and the quality of the competition involved.

Full schedules and standings are available via GotSport and the ECNL app.

FEATURED MATCHES — BOYS

1. NPL | 17U Boys (2009)
Tonka United (4-0-0) vs. North Suburban (3-1-1)
Saturday, April 18 | 9:40 AM | Field 25

Tonka United enters this weekend as the only undefeated team in the NPL 17U Boys division. In the NPL, the league champion advances to the NPL Finals — which means every point matters and every result reverberates through the standings. North Suburban, sitting second with a 3-1-1 record, is the side most capable of ending that unblemished run. A Tonka win cements their dominance heading into the final stretch of the season. A North Suburban victory throws the division wide open.

2. ECNL Regional League | 16U Boys (2010)
North Suburban (5-0-1, 16 pts) vs. Keliix-Intra (5-1-0, 15 pts)
Sunday, April 19 | 9:50 AM | Field 25

Just one point separates first and second in the ECNL RL B2010 division. In the ECNL Regional League, the top two finishers advance to the Central Playoffs — meaning the gap between first and third is far more consequential than it might appear. North Suburban and Keliix-Intra have been neck-and-neck all season, and Sunday morning delivers the direct clash that could decide who owns the top of the table down the stretch.

3. ECNL Regional League | 17U Boys (2009)
Prior Lake (3-1-1, 10 pts) vs. EPSC (5-1-0, 15 pts)
Saturday, April 18 | 7:00 PM | Field 25

With the top two finishers in the ECNL RL advancing to the Central Playoffs, the race for those spots in the B2009 division is very much alive. EPSC currently holds second place with a 5-1-0 record, but Prior Lake at third — 3-1-1 — is close enough to make this a genuine six-pointer. A Prior Lake win compresses the standings and injects real uncertainty at the top. An EPSC result opens up breathing room. Stakes don’t get much clearer than this.

4. NPL | 19U Boys (2008/07) — Group 1
Park Valley (3-0-1, Bracket B leaders) vs. Joy of the People (3-1-0, Bracket A leaders)
Saturday, April 18 | 11:40 AM | Field 26

When the leaders of both brackets meet mid-season, the result carries outsized weight. Both Park Valley and Joy of the People have been dominant within their respective groups; this cross-bracket collision gives each side their clearest read yet on where they stand relative to the team most likely to challenge them when the title is on the line.

5. ECNL Regional League | 19U Boys (2008/07) — Group B
North Star (5-1-0, 15 pts) vs. St. Paul Blackhawks (3-2-1, 10 pts)
Sunday, April 19 | 12:40 PM | Field 26

North Star has been the most commanding side in Group B of the ECNL RL B2008/07 division, but the Central Playoffs only take the top two finishers — and nothing is locked up yet. St. Paul Blackhawks, sitting second, can tighten the race with a result here and make North Star’s path to securing a playoff berth far less comfortable. For the oldest boys age group at League Weekend, Sunday afternoon delivers the highest-stakes 90 minutes of the draw.

FEATURED MATCHES — GIRLS

1. ECNL Regional League | 16U Girls (2010)
MN Thunder Academy (4-1-1, 13 pts, Group B leaders) vs. Prior Lake (4-2-0, 12 pts, Group A leaders)
Sunday, April 19 | 2:20 PM | Field 28

MN Thunder leads Group B, Prior Lake leads Group A — and just one point separates them overall. The race to secure one of the Central Playoff berths is what’s really at stake in this late-Sunday showdown. A win here doesn’t seal anything, but it sends a loud message about which side intends to be standing at the top when the season concludes.

2. NPL | 19U Girls (2008/07)
North Star (2-2-0) vs. Keliix-Intra (4-0-0)
Sunday, April 19 | 11:30 AM | Field 27

Keliix-Intra enters this weekend as one of two undefeated teams in the NPL 19U Girls division — alongside St. Paul Blackhawks, both carrying perfect records. Keliix’s unblemished 4-0-0 record is the single biggest asset they carry into the spring. North Star has the quality and the motivation to test it. Watch to see if the table-topper’s perfect season survives the weekend.

3. ECNL Regional League | 19U Girls (2008/07)
Twin Cities Fire (4-0-2, 14 pts) vs. St. Croix (3-1-1, 10 pts)
Sunday, April 19 | 1:00 PM | Field 29

Boreal FC (4-0-2 record equivalent, 16 pts) and Prior Lake (13 pts) currently hold the two Central Playoffs berths in the ECNL RL G2008/07 division. Twin Cities Fire and St. Croix are right behind them — and right in each other’s way. The loser of this match falls further from the playoff line; the winner keeps the pressure on the top two. In a division this competitive, Sunday afternoon could separate the contenders from the pretenders.

4. NPL | 16U Girls (2010)
Park Valley (3-0-1, Bracket B leaders) vs. Lakeville (3-0-3, Bracket A leaders)
Sunday, April 19 | 2:40 PM | Field 30

Two bracket leaders, one field, one NPL Finals berth available. Park Valley has been the most consistent side in the NPL 16U Girls division — unbeaten and yet to concede a loss — while Lakeville has quietly led Bracket A all season without a defeat of their own. A cross-bracket matchup like this one is a genuine measuring stick for both programs and sets the tone for what the final stretch of the season will look like.

5. NPL | 14U Girls (2012)
Salvo (6-2-4, 22 pts) vs. Minneapolis United (7-1-2, 23 pts)
Saturday, April 18 | 12:00 PM | Field 55

Just one point separates second from fourth in the NPL 14U Girls division, and with only the league champion advancing to the NPL Finals, there is no margin for error. Minneapolis United has been one of the division’s most consistent performers all season, but Salvo has the points and the hunger to close the gap on Saturday afternoon. A Salvo win reshuffles the top of the table; a Minneapolis United result pulls them closer to first-place Tonka United and the Finals berth they’re chasing.
